Silver (metal)

Silver is a precious metal. It is the metal that best reflects light. Because of its warm “white” colour, it constitutes the brightest precious metal.

Silver bonds with sulphur particles that are present in the air and this results in the formation of a black-coloured coating on the silver. That coating can be cleaned off, but it nonetheless serves to give an embossed and vibrant appearance to an item made of silver.

Certain items can be rhodium plated. This means they are covered, by electroplating, with a fine protective coating of rhodium. This process gives a shiny aspect to the surface treated and hardens it, which acts as a protection from oxidation.
